(Photo by Sitthipoj Kebui)The first two days of the "seven dangerous days" of New Year travel have resulted in 20% fewer road deaths than in the same period a year ago, officials said on Saturday. Statistics for Friday showed 576 road accidents, 49 deaths and 609 injuries, up from the day before but down from the corresponding day a year earlier. The highest number of accidents on Friday, at 25, was reported in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Nakhon Si Thammarat had the highest two-day total for accidents (44) and injuries (48), while Si Sa Ket had the most deaths at seven. The Transport Ministry said earlier that it hoped improved enforcement would reduce the number of road accidents and deaths during the New Year holidays this year by at least 5%.
